Cosmetic Color Lenses
Cosmetic color lenses are color contacts without any capability of vision correction. They are worn solely for looks, fashion, or costume and do nothing to improve the wearer’s eyesight. YTou must still have a prescription, though, as non-prescription color contacts were outlawed in 2005. Prior to that, plano contacts or cosmetic color lenses were sold as fashion accessories instead of medical devices. Then the FDA issued a warning about the risks of wearing these lenses that were not sized for the individual’s eye, and President Bush signed into law Bill #109-96 making it illegal to sell cosmetic color lenses to anyone without a prescription.
Cosmetic color lenses have been used in costumes and movies for as long as they’ve been around; for good examples, watch “The Man Who Fell to Earth” and “Twilight.” These special-effect crazy color contact lenses are available for novelty use and can transform the wearer into an alien or jaguar, or a vampire that shimmers in the sunlight instead of burning.
Daily disposable color contacts are a nice option for those only wishing to wear their crazy color contact lenses on special occasions. But how do you choose which color contacts to get?
If you want people to notice your new eye color, then choose a color that will stand out from the makeup and eye shadow you normally wear. Likewise, choose a color that compliments your fashion. If your skin is dark, you might choose bright colored lenses; conversely, if your hair and eyebrows are light, you might choose warm-toned color contact lenses.
If you would rather people notice you look different but not know why you look different, then consider an enhancer lens that, instead of changing your eye color completely, would enhance your natural eye color to make it brighter and more defined. Likewis,e if your natural makeup, hair color, or fashion are generally warm, then you could select a warm-toned lens to blend in.
In a 2002 survey, 60% of respondents said they would like to change their eye color, 27% chose green (then amethyst, blue, turquoise, gray, honey, brown – in that order), and 35% said they would change because another color was better or prettier. The trait most associated with brown eyes is intelligence (34%), trustworthiness (16%) and kindness (13%). According to the survey, blue-eyed people are seen to exude sweetness (42%), sexiness (21%) and kindness (10%), while green eyes are also associated with sexiness (29%) as well as creativity (25%) and deviousness (20%).
